Housebuilder supports future of the industry with new apprentices

BDW Northampton is investing in local talent with the new appointments of three young apprentices at its sites in Milton Keynes.

The new recruits include: Monty Batting, 17, from Brackley in Northamptonshire, Tom Bodsworth, 16, from Dunstable in Bedfordshire and George Merry, 19, from Wootton, Bedfordshire.

Monty will be based at David Wilson Homes’ development Fairfields on Caledonia Road whilst Tom and George will be based at Brooklands, on Fen Street.

They were all delighted to be accepted onto the apprenticeship to gain hands on experience alongside studying at college.

The apprentices are now training with top industry professionals four days a week to develop new skills in carpentry in the hopes of pursuing it as a career afterwards.

Speaking about the apprenticeship, Monty said: “I’m enjoying the hands on style of training, because with my apprenticeship I have the opportunity to learn whilst working on site which I think will help me progress more with my career.

“I am personally looking forward to seeing where I end up in the future with the company and the skills I learn whilstworking. I see myself becoming a skilled carpenter and constantly working and progressing with the company – learning more things along the way to become the best at my position I can be.”

Andrew Swindell, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Northampton, said: “We are delighted to welcome our new apprentices to the team and I’m happy to hear that they are all settling in well.

“Apprenticeships are a great way for students to gain hands on experience away from a classroom environment.

“Here at Barratt and David Wilson Northampton we pride ourselves on not only building high quality homes but looking after our staff.”
