HS2 Road Safety Fund

The Buckinghamshire HS2 Road Safety Fund will open on 22 February 2021. Applications are invited for schemes that will create a legacy of safer roads for those who live and work in the county.

£3.95m has been allocated to Buckinghamshire by the Department for Transport in recognition of the likely disruption to communities that are not used to the volume and impact of heavy traffic associated with major construction works such as the HS2 project.

The fund, which is being administered by Buckinghamshire Council, will be released to meet the costs of road safety schemes, in a series of tranches between now and 2026. The first, £1m, will be made available in 2021. Applicants wishing to apply for funds will need to apply by 15 May 2021.

The funds are expected to be in high demand so schemes to be funded will be carefully selected to maximise the long-term benefits across the county.

Martin Tett, Leader of Buckinghamshire Council, said: “The HS2 Road Safety Fund will contribute to making more of Buckinghamshire’s roads safer for all users. We want as many communities affected by the impact of HS2 construction, as possible, to benefit from a share of that legacy.”
