HS2 Update
On the 28th April 2014, the House of Commons voted on the 2nd Reading of the HS2 Hybrid Bill. Our MP, David Lidington, did not attend the vote despite intense pressure from his constituents to vote against the Bill. Although there was a small rebellion, the Bill was unfortunately passed with the backing of the three main political parties.
What does this mean?
Essentially, the principle of HS2 is now approved and the Government have been given the green light to continue progressing with the scheme.
Is there anything you can do?
Yes, there is! For a fee of £20 and a little bit of your time, there is now a short window available (up until 23rd May) to allow people directly affected by HS2 to lodge a Petition and appear in front of the Parliamentary Select Committee for a final opportunity to ask for better mitigation and compensation. Wendover HS2 believe the best mitigation would be a fully bored tunnel throughout the whole of the Chilterns AONB.
Is there any help available?
Yes, Wendover HS2 will help you. Please visit our website:
www.wendoverhs2.org for more information. In addition, there is a drop-in session to help you complete your Petition in the Wendover Library room on the 10th May, 2-4pm.
