It’s the green light for Crest Road junction improvements

Much needed junction improvements to help unlock further commercial and retail development on ‘Cressex Island’ in High Wycombe start on Monday (25 January).

The work to the junction at Crest Road and John Hall Way will see the existing small roundabout converted into an ‘intelligent’ traffic light controlled junction to improve traffic flows and reduce congestion, especially at peak times.

Other improvements include a new 600 metre shared use cycleway and footway running from Handy Cross roundabout to Holmers Farm Way roundabout linking two existing cycle routes, new toucan crossings incorporated into the junction for both pedestrians and cyclists and additional visibility improvements to help motorists.

The scheme follows a ‘virtual’ consultation on the proposals last year, which attracted over 800 views. The majority of those who responded supported the plans and a number of additional suggestions have been incorporated into the final design.

Buckinghamshire Council Cabinet Member for Transport, Nick Naylor said the improvement works would help bring additional investment and benefits to the local area. “Now, more than ever, we need to create opportunities to grow the local economy and support the creation of new jobs. With companies like Aldi and McDonalds looking to open here, the junction improvements are absolutely vital to increase capacity in the local area.”

Nick added, “As well as the intelligent traffic signals which ‘learn’ how to manage higher vehicle flows in the best possible way, we are also incorporating better facilities for cyclists and pedestrians as part of the design. I really look forward to seeing the completed scheme come into operation.”

The work, being carried out by Transport for Buckinghamshire on behalf of the Council, is expected to take around seven months to complete. Temporary traffic management will be put in place during the works to protect the workforce whilst seeking to minimise any disruption to residents and businesses. Works are planned to take place during weekday working hours with road closures only needed during the short road resurfacing phase towards the end of the construction.
