JOGLE828
Corporal Tom ‘Shezza’ Sherrington, a Royal Air Force Physical Training Instructor, and Corporal Gary ‘Binnsy’ Binns, a Royal Air Force Regiment Gunner, will be embarking on a running adventure, taking them from John O’Groats to Land’s End on 23 April. They will cover 36 miles per day and are aiming to finish at Land’s End 25 days later. Both Corporal Sherrington and Corporal Binns will be traveling the length of the UK, covering 828 miles by foot – a feat that has only been achieved by a handful of individuals. To recognise both distance and locations involved, the athletic pair are naming the adventure JOGLE828. They are doing the run to raise money for three deserving charities: The RAF Benevolent Fund; MIND (mental health), which Corporal Sherrington has opted for; and Corporal Binns has chosen to support Jordan Brown – a family man and an RAF Regiment Gunner suffering from a benign brain tumour. Corporal Binns has served alongside Jordan Brown and is also a good friend to him. Unfortunately Jordan requires extensive surgery that can only be performed privately in Texas USA.
On 13 January, the pair started their preparation for JOGLE828 by participating in their first Ultra running event of the year – Country to Capital. This event started in Wendover and finished 45 miles later in London’s Paddington – or more specifically Little Venice. They both completed the event in just over seven hours.
After reflecting upon their Country to Capital Ultra run, they summarised: “The run was well organised. It was a good experience and puts into perspective how much of a challenge JOGLE828 will be. The run was both physically and emotionally demanding, which should always be expected from any Ultra run.”
In February, Corporals Sherrington and Binns participated in the Vodafone Malta Marathon. In March they have agreed to do a challenge set by sports apparel company ashmei, which is based locally to the pair in Aldbury, Hertfordshire. The British run and clothing brand sets regular challenges to its audience under the name of Challenge 31 – which include individual targets such as running 121 miles in a month. Both Corporals have accepted the challenge but have ‘upped the ante’ by looking to complete the challenge within a week. Thus having to run just over 17 miles per day – a task they will surely find easy…
In addition, ashmei is supporting both Corporal Sherrington and Corporal Binns in their build up to JOGLE828 by supplying them with technical sports apparel. Furthermore, the British brand will be helping the pair design and produce a unique, not for profit training T-shirt. This will be sold in order to raise funds for the aforementioned charities.
