John Colet Head Students 2012 / 2013
The John Colet Head Boys and Girls were voted into office on their return from AS exams in June. Their first task was to organise the annual Fun and Fancy Dress year 12 Sports Day which brought everyone together and reinforced their new tutor groups.
They then turned their attention to helping with new year 7s when they came for their induction day in July.
On the first day of the new academic year, they were busy helping with individual school photos and the daunting task of talking to the whole school in the Sports Hall. This means that now they are easily recognised by everyone.
The sixth form always has to choose two charities to support and this year they are: locally Helen & Douglas House and nationally the Teenage Cancer Trust. They now have to arrange their own fund raising activities eg a Santa Dash round the school field when thoughts turn to the Festive Season. They are already planning decorating the sixth form Common Room for Christmas as well. The whole school is looking forward to other traditional fund raising activities such as Freaky Friday for the lower school and a Bake Off competition with sales as well. There is usually a mufti day after half term to add to the collection. Last year’s Charity Help Week raised over £2½K, a hard and very worthy target to beat!
Other traditional fund raising activities will include a Santa’s Grotto for the lower school then in the New Year there will be Valentine Roses and Egg Hunts.
This year, all year 12s will hold a leadership role within the school, often leading clubs for lower school pupils such as cookery, chess, textiles, etc. They will also be involved in a variety of community activities.
The deputies – Emma and Jamie – will run the School Council with 2 representatives from each year.
We wish them all a very fruitful and enjoyable year.
