John Colet Welcome RAF Visitor

John Colet school staff and students were delighted to welcome Group Captain Adrian Burns, Station Commander of RAF Halton on Monday. The school invited the Group Captain as part of a commitment to developing and maintaining links with the local RAF base. Group Captain Burns enjoyed a tour of the school to see the facilities on offer and to view a specially created display on life as a Service Child. He then met with several of the service children who attend the school.

Seven per cent of students at the school live at RAF Halton and the school offers support to them in a number of ways. All Service children are able to access one-to-one support with the school’s Service Children Network support officer. This provides those that need it, a confidential person to talk to regarding any issues they are facing including dealing with the deployment of a parent, which can make for a very difficult time.

Head teacher Christine McLintock said: “We were delighted to welcome Group Captain Burns to John Colet. He was able to see the school that many of the young people living at RAF Halton attend, the support that we have in place for them and to hear their first-hand experience.

“We are very pleased to work with RAF Halton in a number of ways; team building sessions for Year 12 and Work Experience placements for Year 10. We are always looking at ways to further develop the links.”
