Join our Active Communities Easter Hunt!

This Easter, Buckinghamshire Council’s Active Communities programme is offering everyone the chance to win prizes whilst getting a little more active in a great Easter Hunt!

Using the Active Park Walks in your area, children and adults alike will have the opportunity to win toys, Fitbits and gift vouchers simply for completing an Active Park Walk. Scan the QR codes on the markers along the walks to find the clues, and if you manage to answer all the clues correctly, you can enter the prize draw! There are three competitions on offer so that everyone can get involved – an Easter chick hunt for children in early years settings, an Easter egg hunt for primary school children and an Easter bunny hunt for adults.

The Active Communities programme is designed to encourage everyone to add a little activity to their day to day lives. That does not mean we expect everyone to go to the gym for an intense workout session or out for a long run (although they are also great ways to move your body!). Instead, we want every resident to take advantage of a new understanding about what being active means.

Quite simply, it means trying to be less inactive! Just by limiting the amount of time we are sat in our office or in front of a screen, we can reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease and even some cancers. Being a little more active by going for a short walk each day can also improve blood flow, muscle strength and mental wellbeing, and it can even help control weight.

Carl Jackson, Buckinghamshire Council’s Deputy Cabinet Member for Public Health, said:

“Many of us enjoy indulging in all sorts of chocolate treats at Easter. However, it’s important to keep active too! Moving your body in small ways, such as standing to take a phone call, getting up from your sofa at TV ad breaks or going for a short walk all make a significant difference to our mental and physical health and wellbeing. Get together with your family and friends and join in with one of the Active Communities Easter hunts – it’s a great way to bring everyone together, have some fun and get moving!”

The Active Communities Easter Hunts are running from April 9 to April 24. Make your Easter holidays a little more active by visiting the Active Communities website and downloading your Easter Hunt entry form.
