Joint Statement regarding The Wendover Swimming Pool

A statement from John Colet School and The Wendover Swimming Pool:

John Colet School and Wendover Swimming are pleased to confirm that agreements on the future of the swimming pool, situated on the school campus, have been finalised and that a long-term lease of the facility to Wendover Swimming has been established.

This means that Wendover Swimming CIO, the charity formed to take over the running of the pool, will be able to apply for grants and oversee refurbishments with a view to upgrading the facilities, improving the service it provides to the community and ensuring the long-term viability of the project.

Christine McLintock, Head Teacher at John Colet comments: “We are delighted that Wendover Swimming has made the commitment to ensure the pool can continue in operation, run by and for the community. By ensuring a 30-year lease at a nominal rent, we are happy to be supporting the continued success of the pool as a community facility. John Colet and Wendover Swimming have worked together to effect this outcome and we will continue to support Wendover Swimming where possible.

“Community links are priority for the John Colet School so we are delighted that, at this time of tightening budget constraints, the pool will still be accessible and beneficial for local people. We wish Wendover Swimming well in taking over full responsibility for the future of the pool.”

“Wendover Swimming are grateful for the support the John Colet School have given in securing agreement to the long term lease,” comments Peter Chaplin, Chairman of Wendover Swimming. “This allows Wendover Swimming to continue running the pool on behalf of the local community, whilst enabling us to invest in improving the facilities. We would like to thank all of our volunteers for their commitment and support in keeping the pool open, week in and week out, giving the community the chance to enjoy this fabulous facility.”

Currently Wendover Swimming Pool provides swimming for families, serious lane swimmers young and old, recreational swimmers, mothers and babies, local primary and secondary schools, several swim schools catering for all ages and abilities, triathlon clubs, Cubs, Scouts and Brownies, Wendover Youth Club and organisers of local activity camps. All these groups can now continue to swim locally without disruption thanks to the agreement between John Colet School and Wendover Swimming.
