The development of Nightingale’s Rainbow, a structure to celebrate the response of individuals, organisations and communities across Buckinghamshire to the Covid-19 pandemic, reached a key landmark this week with the completion of landscaping.

Following four days of groundworks and soil preparation, on Friday 15th October students from Stoke Mandeville School, Ashmead School, Bucks UTC and Stocklake Park School, as well as local community champions from Aylesbury and volunteer gardeners from Florence Nightingale Hospice, joined forces to put in the bulbs and plants to complete the landscaping. The design and creation of the garden was funded by Aylesbury Garden Town, as part of a 6-month working project between Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity and Chiltern Rangers.

Cllr Gareth Williams, Chairman of the Aylesbury Garden Town Strategic Oversight Board, commented: “It is fantastic to see the garden around Nightingale’s Rainbow being completed.  The Rainbow recognises the resilience of the people of Buckinghamshire and their acts of kindness during the pandemic and it is fitting that local community representatives should be part of the project, by helping with the planting of the community landscaping day.”

Emma Carroll, Partnerships Manager at Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity, who has been overseeing the project says, “We are so excited to reach these final stages of the project and are looking forward to unveiling the completed installation, which will be a permanent tribute to our local communities’ kindness and resilience over the past eighteen months.”

Everyone across Buckinghamshire is invited to be part of Nightingale’s Rainbow by dedicating a Rainbow Tile to anyone who has supported them, their loved ones or their community.  Find out more at www.nightingalesrainbow.org.uk.

The proceeds from the sale of Rainbow Tiles will be shared between Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity and the Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Charitable Fund to support local healthcare across Buckinghamshire.
