Five star developer Barratt and David Wilson Homes has begun its bespoke award scheme at St Mary’s C of E Primary School as creative pupils look forward to a year-long project.

The Building Buddies Award is being hosted at the local primary school on the homebuilder’s Eagles’ Rest development, guiding pupils through the construction process with four exciting activities.

The specially designed scheme is intended to encourage children to show an interest in the industry, helping them to consider a career in construction from an early age.

The participating Year 6 pupils at St Mary’s C of E Primary School have now been presented with the workbooks and are now completing the first activity, naming a development and designing a logo.

David Caswell, Year 6 Teacher at St Mary’s C of E Primary School, said: “We are very excited to start the Building Buddies Award and teach the children about construction and all of the aspects to housebuilding.

“It’s such a fun scheme and we’re very thankful for Barratt and David Wilson Homes for choosing us to participate.”

Split into four activities, the award scheme is set to teach young people about planning and land, sales and marketing, technical and design and construction.

Further to the naming and logo design competition, pupils at the school will partake in a writing competition, a wildlife friendly exercise and site visit and poster competition.

The winner of each competition will be presented with a prize whilst the school itself will be presented with a coveted Building Buddies Award in a ceremony at the end of the school year.

John Dillon, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said: “With our Building Buddies Award, we have the chance to educate young children about the industry as well as raising awareness about important issues such as site safety.

“We’re thrilled to be working with St Mary’s C of E Primary School throughout the year and we hope the pupils enjoy the project.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the creativity of the children grow with each design and literature task, whilst giving them an understanding of the construction process at our nearby Eagles’ Rest development.”
