Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Thames has donated £1,000 to a local charity dedicated to giving support and care to adults in Aylesbury Vale who are going through difficult times.

SPACE, Aylesbury, has been running since 1997 and has developed over time in response to the changing needs of its users. It has become well-respected within the Aylesbury community and became a charity in 2018.

The charity is currently providing virtual drop-ins, affordable one to one counselling sessions with experienced counsellors, group meet ups in person and the distribution of surplus food.

SPACE have been busier than ever during the Covid-19 pandemic and have helped during lockdown by shopping, collecting prescriptions and delivering these to vulnerable adults.

The charity helps anyone who may seek it. For example, those suffering from loneliness, long term illness, bereavement, stress, anxiety, relationship breakdown or financial issues. 75% of those they work with have a mental health diagnosis.

Kate Lawton, Project Co-ordinator at SPACE, said: “We were completely overwhelmed when we found out that we were going to receive the Community Fund donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

“The donation will be used to continue to keep vulnerable adults in Aylesbury Vale as safe as possible.  Current restrictions are difficult for all of us, but for those who live alone, have health issues and fall in the Government’s vulnerable category, life is even more confusing and harsh than it was before.

“It will fund our counsellors and support workers to continue and increase the hours of one to one and group facilitation helping marginalised adults in our community.

“It’s great to see that Barratt and David Wilson Homes is engaging with the wider community issues as well as improving the area’s built environment. We truly give our sincere thanks to them.”

Simon Francis, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Thames, said: “We are so pleased to be able to support SPACE and the fantastic work they are doing helping vulnerable adults.

“This year has been tough for most, so it is important that the vulnerable are being cared for. The work SPACE are doing is vital and should not go unnoticed.”
