Leighton Buzzard Railway’s Mencap Special

A special train for the Mencap Leighton Buzzard was laid on by the Leighton Buzzard Railway on Wednesday evening 18th July and crewed in part by volunteers who work for both charities.

Local group organiser Mrs Danielle Harding said ‘we were delighted to take this special train which gave so much pleasure to our members’. Her son and Mencap volunteer Josh was a member of the locomotive crew, while Mencap volunteers Ross Hobbs acted as assistant guard and Jamie Randall as Flagman on the line’s many road crossings.

‘We are delighted to have such a close working association with Mencap’ said Leighton Buzzard Railway Chairman Terry Bendall, ‘we are a local community project and it is great to be serving the people of Leighton Buzzard in this way. We are also very proud that some of our volunteers also volunteer for Mencap, a very worthwhile cause’

After enjoying a ride to Stonehenge and back, the visitors enjoyed a buffet supper at the Buzzrail café.
