Lindengate’s new Sensory Garden
At Lindengate there are many opportunities for our Gardeners to learn and experience the therapeutic effect of horticulture, arts and crafts, construction, cooking and wild life, as well as being part of a team and the wider community. In creating a sensory garden, we plan to take these opportunitiesa step further for our existing Gardeners whilst allowing us to cater for the needs of the broader groups we have identified. These include those on the autistic spectrum and those dealing with the many areas of memory loss. Most importantlythe gardenwill be fully accessible.
As the title indicates the garden will be used for sensory enrichment and relaxation as well as mental stimulation and fun. It will include a huge variety of planting, sculptures and art displays, seating areas, landscaping, water features, wildlife areas and much more to stimulate all the 5 senses
We are very excited that designs are being finalised at the moment and we already have the funding for the main pathways within the garden and hope to get started on these in the next few weeks.
The remainder of the garden will be broken down into manageable projects for fund raising – and there will be a lot of them! At around 24m2 the finished area will be one of the largest sensory gardens in the area.
Once we have raised the funds both Gardeners and volunteers will work together to create what will be become an incredible addition to Lindengate’s offering.
