Local Face: John Hinton
John Hinton is the face of Christopher Pallet Estate Agents in Wendover.
In 1974, Christopher Pallet asked him to help over a busy period in his recently opened Estate Agents and Surveyors office in Aylesbury Road, Wendover. John, now a partner, has been in the village now for over 32 years.
John is very much a local person having been born and bred in Aylesbury. His father worked for the printers, Hazell Watson and Viney and he had a brother, Richard, who sadly died young. He went to school at Queens Park and then onto the Aylesbury Grammar School. After school he became a trainee estate agent with W. Brown & Co., where he first met and worked with Chris Pallet. He then moved on to manage the Great Missenden office of Howard Son and Gooch, before coming to Wendover.
Since the 1960’s John has been involved as a bass player in local bands. Many people know him as a member of the Graham Evans Allstars, China Rose and more recently the Duvets, having played at many a gig in Wendover. Many of these have been for charity supporting Wendover Cricket Club, (Christopher Pallet also sponsor the Village Cup), Football Club, Theatre Club (some years ago), British Heart Foundation, Rotary and in particular with the annual Shoulder of Mutton garden party in aid of the Wendover Health Centre, held in the summer, where he has played every year.
John is a founder member of the Rotary Club of Aylesbury Hundreds and he continues in a keen and active role with particular emphasis upon the fund raising. (He has organised the Wendover Charity Restaurant Evening over the last few years, attended by many villagers). He is a member of the historical Aylesbury Association of Protection of Persons and Property, the Wendover Traders Group and the Aylesbury Club.
As a “side line” John used to modernise properties, having converted a number in Wendover in the 70’s and was a founder partner with Chris Pallet in Pebbles Bistro Restaurant in Aylesbury, at that time both committing themselves some weeks to six days in the office and five nights at the restaurant.
John has been married to Jo, a nurse, for almost 40 years and they have lived in Chearsley all of their married life. He is a proud father of two sons and a very proud “pop” of seven year old twin boys and a newly born grandson.
John has always had a keen interest in cars, offshore sailing and would like to play more regular and better golf.
We know John is particularly pleased to act as agent for many families and friends he has known since he started in Wendover, including some who he actually went to school with, and in some cases he is working for the grandchildren of his original clients. Not only do his clients appreciate his broad knowledge but also his good and helpful professional advice, positive attitude and infinite patience.
As well as house sales he deals with commercial property, land sales, planning and professional work. For broad experience and local knowledge he would be hard to match. John tells us he has no interest in retiring so we hope he will continue to help the people of Wendover and district with their property matters for many years to come.
