Directors from leading Watford-based housebuilder Barratt and David Wilson Homes have pitched in for a day to help a local nature reserve to improve habitats for local wildlife.

The board of directors from the developer including, Jo Alden, Technical Director, Ed Atwell, Finance Director, Andy Moore, Development Director and Dan Evans, Operations Director, volunteered at the RSPB Otmoor Nature Reserve where approximately 90 different species of bird currently breed.

Jo Alden, Technical Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Thames, said: “The RSPB relies heavily on volunteers and donations and we were delighted to be able to help out.

“We spent the day helping to improve the habitat for ground nesting birds by cutting down shrubs and small trees. We received expert guidance as well as a wonderful insight into conservation.

“It was a fantastic day outside in a natural environment, which we all felt was fulfilling and of benefit to the RSPB.”

The nature reserve at Otmoor is of national importance for many species of rare birds and is a haven for bird lovers. The RSPB have an ongoing programme of restoration to ensure that it remains an important habitat.

Since 2015 Barratt and David Wilson Homes has had a national partnership with the RSPB which enables it to enhance its practices to embed nature friendly design and planting across developments.

The partnership has supported the homebuilder to engage customers and residents more effectively in the value of giving nature a home.

Throughout the year all Barratt and David Wilson employees are given a day where they are asked to give this time to volunteer for charity or other good causes. They are proactive in encouraging volunteering work across the country.
