Local MP urges community to take up testing
Aylesbury MP Rob Butler visited the town’s rapid test centre today (Friday 5th March), to speak with the testing team – and take a test himself.
Rob said:
“The testing system is quick and simple. My test took no more than five minutes start to finish, with a couple of questions and temperature checks before a very straightforward swab test in the mouth and nose. Then all you have to do is wait thirty minutes for a message on your mobile phone to tell you the result.
“Everybody who needs to leave home during lockdown for work or to volunteer, and doesn’t have symptoms, can visit the site at the Vale Retail Park. It’s perfect for shop workers, taxi drivers, electricians, and plumbers. And as schools go back next week this is also ideal for parents and other carers.
“I was extremely impressed by the organisation of the centre and by the fantastic team of people who are working there. They come from all backgrounds, with jobs ranging from barber to restaurant manager to retired healthcare worker, alongside staff from Buckinghamshire Council. I’d like to thank them all.
“One in three people with COVID-19 doesn’t show symptoms but could be spreading the virus without knowing it. Rapid testing helps stop this, breaking the chain of infection in our local area and keeping Aylesbury on the road to recovery.”
The rapid test centre, located at the Vale Retail Park, is open for drop-in appointments all day, seven days a week. Tests can also be booked in advance online.
The lateral flow method is a new type of technology that does not require a laboratory for processing. This means the tests are practical, easy to use and can be deployed in locations throughout the community. There are four centres across Buckinghamshire.
