Local MP Welcomes Queen’s Speech Setting Out Government’s Ambitious Plans
Aylesbury MP Rob Butler has strongly welcomed the Queen’s Speech at the State Opening of Parliament this morning.
After watching the Speech from the Chamber Gallery in the House of Lords, Rob said:
“This is an extremely important constitutional and ceremonial event in our country’s calendar, and it was a great privilege to be in the House of Lords to witness HRH The Prince of Wales formally opening Parliament this morning. It was, though, a poignant event, as Her Majesty The Queen was unable to deliver her speech in person, due to concerns over her mobility: my thoughts are very much with her in this Platinum Jubilee year.”
“Behind the pomp and circumstance, the Queen’s Speech sets the agenda for our work in Parliament in the year ahead. 38 new Bills have been announced to deliver on the Government’s priorities – growing the economy to tackle the cost of living; cutting crime; tackling the Covid backlog and giving local communities more powers to drive regeneration. I will continue to be a strong voice for Aylesbury as these Bills are debated, doing everything I can to make our proud county town and its surrounding area the best possible place to live, work, visit and invest.”
