Local Transport Closures for HS2 Works

Notice of Ellesborough Road closure for utility diversion and crash barrier installation. (20November 2023)

In advance of the completion and tie-in of the temporary diversion of Ellesborough Road into the existing road in early 2024, our team need to close the road to complete further utility diversions works at both the eastern and western tie-in areas.

In constructing the realignment, our team have so far dug trial holes, surveyed, and diverted high voltage cables, gas mains, internet and telephone services and installed a sheet pile wall to protect the Memorial Wood under our previous closures, and as we move closer to these works now being complete.

As the nature of these works involve open excavations and due to the narrow width of the carriageway, we need to close the road to ensure the safety of both our workforce and road users. Pedestrian and resident access will be maintained throughout the closure although the footpath maybe diverted onto the carriageway.

Ellesborough Road must be diverted to continue with the construction of Wendover Green Tunnel. The diversion includes a temporary new bridge which will enable site traffic to pass underneath and for the tunnel to be constructed without any disruption to the road. We are working to have the temporary realignment in operation in early 2024.

When will these works take place?

• Monday 4 December to Saturday 9 December

Notice of road closure A418 Oxford Road. (3 November 2023)

Throughout 2023, preparations for the permanent realignment of the A418 Oxford Road have been progressing. The realignment of this road will carry traffic over the HS2 line on the new A418 Overbridge currently under construction.

There will be a further closure on the A418 Oxford Road in November to install a new electricity cable under the road between the Coldharbour Way roundabout and Meadoway, extending a short distance beyond the Meadoway junction.

To complete these works as promptly as possible we have been granted consent to work 24 hours a day during this period.

We will also be carrying out maintenance on a wooded area along the northern side of the A418 Oxford Road. This will involve the removal of overhanging branches near the road and footpath and the limited removal of some trees where necessary for safety reasons. This work will be done during daytime working hours only.

Residents access to Meadoway will be maintained via Sedrup Lane during this period. Every effort will be made to complete these works over a single weekend, however if this is not possible there will be a second weekend closure to complete the works, as detailed below.

When will these works take place?

  • Utility works will be carried out from Friday 17 November 8:30pm until 5:30am Monday 20 November 2023.
  • Utility works will continue if necessary from Friday 1 December 8:30pm until 5:30am Monday 4 December 2023
  • Woodland maintenance works will be carried out Saturday 18 to Sunday 19 November between 8am and 6pm.
  • Woodland maintenance will continue if necessary from Friday 1 December 8:30pm until 5:30am Monday 4 December 2023.

These works have been scheduled to take place over the weekend to cause minimum disruption to road users.

Notice of Lane and Road Closures – Nash Lee Road. (31 October 2023)

The temporary realignment of Nash Lee Road was opened for public use in June of this year. The new road incorporates a temporary bridge carrying road traffic. Now that the bridge has been in operation for nearly five months, we need to undertake routine maintenance to ensure functionality is maintained.

To carry out these maintenance works we will be closing the road overnight. By doing this we can reduce the impact on road users while the maintenance is being undertaken. Further maintenance works will be conducted periodically until the permanent alignment is constructed.

We will also be undertaking some clearance works in the same location on Nash Lee Road. These works will be undertaken during the day under lane closures with two-way traffic lights in operation.

When will these works take place?
Daytime lane closures with two-way traffic lights:

  • Monday 13 November to Wednesday 15 November

Overnight road closure (8.30pm – 5.30am):

  • Monday 20 November to Saturday 25 November

Notice of works Princes Risborough to Aylesbury Line
Throughout 2023, we have been working to prepare for a period of construction where we have an interface with Network Rail. There is a programme planned for a 10- week closure of the Princes Risborough to Aylesbury line, known as a blockade, while we undertake our works.

During this time, we will be constructing, moving and commissioning the new line. The realignment, which is only around 20m from the original line, is integral to keeping the Network Rail line open as HS2 passes through.

We will also be installing additional noise hoarding either side of the railway line by the Hawkslade Estate. There may be some vegetation clearance required to enable this.

Network Rail will then be conducting some safety upgrades on Marsh Lane crossing to make the crossing compliant post realignment works, which will be in place until Spring 2024.

There will be a closure of the Princes Risborough to Aylesbury Line for 12 weeks, which includes 2 weeks of Network Rail culvert repair works.

When will these works take place?

• Saturday 19 August and Monday 30 October 2023 – HS2 Blockade works begin.

Bacombe Lane, Wendover – traffic management and temporary diversion

We need to construct a plant crossing near the bottom of Bacombe Lane to prepare for the construction and earthworks around the Green Tunnel and the temporary Bacombe Lane link road. This will allow our vehicles to cross the lane safely and ensure local traffic access is maintained.

To construct the plant crossing we will need to temporarily divert Bacombe Lane to the north-east of the existing road. As this diversion will be a single lane, we will introduce traffic lights to enable vehicles to pass the plant crossing construction area safely.

The Bacombe Lane footpath has been temporarily diverted to its original alignment whilst we continue construction in the area, this will be realigned back to the previous diversion route in due course.

When finished, the plant crossing will be operational from July and will include a traffic light system. Traffic on Bacombe Lane will be held on red lights for short durations to enable our plant and vehicles to safely cross the road.

Plant crossing construction on Bacombe Lane with two-way traffic lights and temporary diversion:

  • Monday 17 July 2023 – December 2023
