London gallery enjoys the darling buds of Chesham’s May
A London art gallery is enjoying the darling buds of May – thanks to a Buckinghamshire Adult Learning student from Chesham.
May Saleh, 56, was selected from 351 entries to display her artwork, a painting of a beautiful flower, at Morley Gallery. This was part of the ‘Inspired by…’ competition open to adult learners across the UK.
May has been attending ‘Drawing & Painting’ classes at Chesham Adult Learning Centre.
“She did not win the competition as such but being asked to exhibit your work at the gallery is a great achievement,” said Zena Sutcliffe, Interim Head of Buckinghamshire Adult Learning. “We are very proud that one of our learners has been chosen for this honour.”
May said: “This is my first ever art competition and I was delighted to be selected.”
Her tutor Mary Pomeroy said: “May is very talented and works at her ideas. She is very good at sharing and encouraging others, as well as being a joy to have in the class.”
The exhibition at Morley Gallery runs from 17 May – 17 June, and brings together new works of art, craft and digital media created by adult learners from across the UK, inspired by the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
All the works on display were chosen by an esteemed panel of V&A curators, who also selected 13 works for prizes.
Inspired by… is open to the public from 17 May – 17 June 2016 at Morley Gallery, 61 Westminster Bridge Road, London SE1 7HT and entry is free. For further information visit www.morleycollege.ac.uk/gallery or call 020 7450 1826.
