Lord Baker Visits Bucks UTC

Bucks UTC welcomed Lord Baker last week, who came to meet the new students and see the state of the art facilities. Former Education Secretary Lord Baker is Chairman of the Baker Dearing Educational Trust, which pioneers the development of UTCs across the country.

Lord Baker said: “It’s almost a year to the day that I came to meet Bev Flanagan who had just started as Principal of Bucks UTC. At that time, there were no students; there wasn’t even a building, and certainly none of the superb learning facilities that I’ve now seen. What a difference a year makes! I was delighted to see the students embracing their academic and vocational training in IT and Construction. We are desperately short of skilled technicians in these areas in the UK and it’s great to meet the next generation”.

Bev Flanagan, Principal of Bucks UTC added: “As we approach our first half term it’s amazing to see what our young people have already achieved. We’ve run some great projects with our employer partners, and the visit from Lord Baker has been an added thrill for them all”.

Bucks UTC is now recruiting for September 2014. The team are holding open days at the UTC on Tuesday 5 November and Thursday 21 November, 4-7pm. Book online at www.buckinghamshireutc.co.uk/events or call 01296 388688.
