A Magical Mix
A unique collaboration between Calibre Audio Library, the charity which provides audio books for people unable to read print, and presenters from Aylesbury’s Mix96, has made a writer’s New Year dream come true.
Calibre Audio Library member, Anthony Ridgway, who has cerebral palsy and uses an electrical wheelchair, has written a children’s book called Wizzy’s Worm about a wheelchair with attitude. It is part of a series Anthony is writing with a new book due to be published by Little Knoll Press in the autumn.
Mix96 presenter Nathan Cooper and his fellow broadcasters made a special recording of the book playing all the characters. Wizzy’s Worm will be available to many children like Anthony who can’t hold a physical book due to disability, sight loss or dyslexia.
Nathan Cooper said “Having spent some time at Calibre and seen the brilliant work they do, I was delighted to help when they approached us about Anthony’s book. We had a lot of fun recording it, and it wasn’t just the on-air team that got involved. The advertising team all leant their voices, and we even recruited a visiting engineer and my 6 year old daughter to record lines!
Getting to speak to Anthony when he called to say thank you was something I will remember for a long time, and all of us at Mix96 look forward to hearing what happens next to Wizzy.”
Anthony said: “I think it is fantastic the way Mix96 have brought the characters in Wizzy’s Worm to life. Thank you so much Calibre for making this possible.”
