Making a difference to the South West Chilterns community
The South West Chilterns Community Board has spent the past 12 months engaging with groups, residents and organisations and has already made a positive difference to the local community.
The board, which met again on Wednesday (7 July), took the opportunity to reflect back on some of the progress made in the last year. This includes:
- Supporting those who have struggled with their mental health by contributing towards the creation of an All Abilities garden within the Lady Ryder Memorial Garden in Parmoor, near Frieth.
- Offering direct support to four young people, aged of 13-17 who are at risk of offending or reoffending, by working with Transitions UK on their Aspire Project which gives mentoring support for up to two years
- Collaborating with local groups to address food poverty, supporting projects providing fresh fruit, vegetables and staple foods to those in need and signposting to other support organisations and being at the heart of the creation of the Chiltern and South Bucks Food Group under the umbrella of the Bucks Food Partnership.
- Supporting the work of Chiltern Rangers within the board area so local organisations and groups are able to learn about their natural surroundings and have a greater awareness of nature by creating habitats for wildlife.
Looking forward, South West Chilterns Community Board will focus on:
- Environment and Climate Change
- Economic Recovery and Development
- Highways and Transport
- Community Engagement
Chairman of the South West Chilterns Community Board, Dominic Barnes explained: “We have action groups set up and raring to go in addressing these areas and over £338K to spend on these priorities.
