Man pays £894 after waste found dumped in Aylesbury
Anthony Andrew Richards (31) of Somerville Way, Aylesbury, pleaded guilty at Wycombe Magistrates Court on Wednesday (15 April 2015) to an offence of failing in his duty of care regarding waste which had been found dumped illegally.
The court heard that on 7 July 2014, waste was found dumped off Madeley Road, Aylesbury. A local resident reported the waste to the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire, whose investigator traced evidence found within the dumped waste which was traced to a household at Prebendal Avenue, Aylesbury. The householder had paid Mr Richards to remove the waste.
When interviewed by Waste Partnership investigators, Mr Richards denied dumping the waste himself. He said he had given the householder’s £100 to other men to take the waste away. He was unable to provide evidence of the identity of those men or to produce any receipt for lawful disposal of the waste.
The Magistrates fined Mr Richards £440, and ordered him to pay clean-up and prosecution costs of £410. A victim surcharge of £44 was also levied, making a total to pay of £894.
The Waste Partnership launched the ‘Illegal Dumping Costs’ campaign in October 2003 to combat illegal dumping and waste management offences in Buckinghamshire. Since then, the Partnership has secured 476 convictions against individuals and companies for illegal dumping and related offences. On average, there is at least one conviction per week for illegal dumping offences in Buckinghamshire. This has resulted in a halving of reported incidents and a saving of over £1 million for residents.
