Local crime update
At the time of writing (30/03/17) there have been 51 reported crimes. This is a rise on the last two months. This is in part due to one incident of disorder in Wendover last month which resulted in 10 crimes being committed. This might sound worrying but we would like to reassure you that this was a contained incident and no members of the public were a risk.
In addition we have had a rise in theft from motor vehicle (TFMV) offences. In the last month we have had such 5 offences. All 5 offences occurred on the same night and where believed to be linked. 3 were in the village of Weston Turville and 2 were in Wendover.
A breakdown of some of the offences which occurred in the last month are as follows:

Anti-social behaviour
During the last month we have had a number of reports of anti-social behaviour in the area of The Marroway in Weston Turville. These reports involve items being thrown at moving vehicles minding their own business travelling along this road. This type of behaviour is unacceptable and is highly dangerous. Four such instances have resulted in damage to vehicles and in one instance a 67 year old female was hit on the side of the face with a stone that came through the window it had smashed. The glass shattered all over her and the other rear seat passenger – a 10 year old child. In another similar incident glass shattered over a 7 year old child.
The team have increased our patrols in this area and have been engaging with sections of the local community to establish who is responsible. Work will continue in this area.
We do urge anyone effected or anyone that can provide any information about these incidents to contact your local neighbourhood team.
Crime prevention advice
As mentioned in the crime update there has been an increase in Theft from Motor Vehicles last month. The targeted vehicles have mainly been vans where thieves are looking for tools. We recommend the following to advice to van owners:-
- If you are staying in a hotel, where possible remove your tools from your van and keep them in your room overnight
- Don’t assume your vehicle has locked properly using a key fob lock. Criminals can use devices which block the signal. Always check your doors are locked before leaving your vehicle unattended
- If you have a garage, use it. If your van is parked on a driveway, consider installing security lighting. If neither of these apply, try to park in well lit areas
- Consider alarming the vehicle or fitting an internal security cage when tools and equipment are not being used, ensure they are kept securely in a lockable store rather than in your vehicle
- Consider whether the storage area can be alarmed. If the equipment is portable, take it with you
- don’t leave tools in vehicles unattended or overnight, and place a sign in the window stating they have been removed
- Lock/immobilise vehicles and equipment when not in use
- Visibly mark your machinery and tools using an engraving or chemical etching kit or use a forensic marking kit. Place a sticker in your window to say you have done so – the signage alone, can be a very effective deterrent
- Keep a list of tools, together with serial numbers and any identifying marks. You can do this at www.immobilise.com. This will help to trace them back to you if they are recovered
- Consider the use of security patrols around building sites
- Keep the access to building sites secure – fences and gates help prevent unauthorised entry
If you have any suspicious visitors on your site or in the local area please call the Police non emergency number 101.
