Matters Arising – News from Wendover Parish Council, March 2021

View from the Chair
Spring approaches so there have been a few changes to report in the Parish Council and Clock Tower.

Chairman Tom Walsh has stepped down from that role although he is continuing as a Councillor with HS2 as his focus. Our thanks go to him for his sterling service over the past 3 years.

We are also saying goodbye to our Clerk of over 2 years, Keith Shelley. The council thank him for his dedication, commitment and achievements as Clerk and wish him every success in his future post.

I had the honour of being elected as Chairman at the February Parish Council Meeting. A bit of background from me: I have lived in Wendover for 36 years. Our four children have all attended the local schools and we have been involved in the wider life of the community and local activities for most of that time. I have been a school governor, a lifeguard at the swimming pool and a regular allotment holder to name but a few. After 20 years of teaching Chemistry at a variety of schools, I retired in 2012.

With a bit more time on my hands and wanting to help keep Wendover the wonderful place to live that it is, I became a Parish Councillor in May 2015. Since then, I have been instrumental in producing the Wendover Neighbourhood Plan, Chair of the Finance Committee for four years, and a member and more recently Chair of the Planning Committee.

The Council’s priorities include a second informal parking review of various streets (leaflets will be posted), please respond, and looking at the open spaces for trees and possibly a skate park.

I hope that the future will be better for all as we come out of the cloud of Covid-19 and I look forward to serving the community to the best of my ability.
