A Message from Wendover Arm Trust
We are pleased to announce that we have received First Round Pass from the Heritage Lottery Fund amounting to £1,627,000. This means that this sum has been earmarked but is not available at this stage. The application was jointly submitted with the canal owner, the Canal & River Trust. We can now progress to Stage 2 of the application process, which is a lengthy and detailed and whilst we are encouraged by our success with the First Round, there is no guarantee of ultimate success.
The Wendover Arm Trust has to provide 15% of this sum by way of matched funding and fund raising activities will continue in order to finance this element and continuing restoration costs in the interim. It is hoped that the Second Round application will be made by Spring 2017 with a decision following during the summer. If the bid is successful this will enable us to complete Phase 2 of the restoration linking Little Tring with Drayton Beauchamp creating three miles of navigable canal from Bulbourne Junction on the Grand Union. Work would then commence on investigations for full restoration into Wendover which is complicated by the necessity to deal with some low bridges preventing navigation.
