Milton Keynes Foodbank receives £2500 donation from housebuilder’s furniture sale
Housebuilder Barratt and David Wilson Homes has donated £2,500 to Milton Keynes Food Bank in a bid to help support its vital community work in the area.
The donation was made after a resident at the housebuilder’s Eagles’ Rest development purchased furniture from a show home, in which the developer decided to donate the proceeds to the food bank.
MK Food Bank has supported the local community with emergency food parcels since 2004. Relying solely on donations of food and money from the local community, schools, churches, and corporate sponsors, it distributed over 18,500 parcels to Milton Keynes residents in 2021 alone.
Poppy Cheetham, Fundraising and Communications Coordinator at MK Food Bank, said: “We are thrilled to receive this fantastic donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes! With the cost-of-living crisis we are now seeing a huge demand for our services, with over 20,000 food parcels going out in 2022, we need financial support to help sustain this support, and we are very grateful that Barratt and David Wilson Homes chose MK Food Bank to help during this difficult time.
“People call us or are referred to us for a variety of reasons, with family crises, loss of employment or benefit and debt problems all common. Sometimes people coming out of hospital or prison need immediate practical support, as do those placed in emergency accommodation. Whatever circumstances leave families struggling to keep a roof over their heads, the Food Bank is able to provide short term, food crisis support.
“From the team and volunteers at MK Food Bank, we would like to extend a huge thank you to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for its support, it’s very much appreciated and this much needed donation will be supporting many families and individuals in need in our community.”
The funding will go towards buying food, the running costs for the food bank vans and warehouse costs.
Ben Kalus, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said: “As a leading housebuilder we strive to support the communities in and around the areas in which we build and were delighted to be able to offer Milton Keynes Food Bank a donation to support the fantastic work it does.
“We have witnessed how the foodbank, despite the effects of the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis, has continued to provide vital services which vulnerable members of the community rely on.”
