Milton Keynes Students get an Insight into Construction at Barratt Homes Development Brooklands
Keen students at Walton High were given an insight into construction at Barratt Homes’ Milton Keynes development Brooklands during a site visit recently.
Fifteen students were invited along to the new homes site on Fen Street where they met with industry professionals to learn more about housebuilding and how they could pursue a career in the sector.
The aim of the visit, arranged by Barratt Homes and the school, was to demonstrate what goes on at a building site and all of the different trades that work at the development to craft new homes.
They also learnt about the different skills and processes involved in building a new home in a bid to inspire them to consider a full-time career in house building after leaving school.
Sharon Alexander, Principal of Walton High, said: “Visits like this are a great opportunity for young people to explore different career paths and have a taste of the world at work.”
The group were taught how to stay safe on site by the Health and Safety Manager Danny Brady before meeting the construction team and having a tour of the development.
They were also given a feel for what it is like to work on a construction site, whilst having the chance to interview a number of experts in different trades of housebuilding that was arranged by the Site Manager Paul Neale.
At the end of the visit the students engaged in a question and answer session with Danny, where they found out more about how to get into the industry.
