More people are learning languages in lockdown
Social distancing and lockdown are tough for all of us and we are struggling to keep mentally healthy. First, we cannot see our loved ones and our friends but also we are stuck at home. How can you turn a difficult situation into something more manageable. Your answer could be languages. There has never been a better time to learn a language than during lockdown.
Use of language learning apps or online classes has boomed during the pandemic and for once Britons are leading the way. The top reason for signing up is an interest in language learning and other cultures, which has overtaken travel.
For those of you who have not taken this challenge yet, huge benefits could come your way, it is like opening a window to another culture, you can connect with other people around the world but there is a lot more on offer:
A recent study led by Dr Bak who followed 853 children in 1947 and again in 2010 in their 70’s showed that being bilingual helps you perform better in general intelligence tests and reading. It also indicated that learning a second language as an adult has positive results. It is never too late to learn and the bonus is that it helps you to concentrate better, you will develop new areas of your mind and strengthen your brain’s ability to focus. For those of you who want to feel better in these dark times, learning a new language will help you be healthier in your mind and feel good about yourself.
