‘Mutual Aid’ focus in the daily council video update
Extra support for the community during the coronavirus emergency is highlighted in today’s (Monday) daily video update (Vlog) from Buckinghamshire Council Leader Martin Tett.
Joining Martin are Sarah Murphy-Brookman and Jackie Binning. Sarah, the Council’s Corporate Director for Resources, explains how, through a ‘mutual aid’ scheme, council staff are turning their hands to other work to provide valuable extra support through the Council’s Community Hubs to help the Covid-19 effort.
Jackie, the Council’s Data Governance Manager, explains how she hopes her ‘mutual aid’ role with administrative duties supporting the Community Hub helps release volunteers for their work.
“I do hope the support I’m giving the volunteers is allowing them to do their most valuable work,” said Jackie. “I am in awe of the work the volunteers and everyone else are carrying out.”
Sarah pays tribute to more than 200 offers of ‘mutual aid’ support by local businesses co-ordinated with Bucks Business First. Among them are firms like Honest Hand Sanitisers, diverting the alcohol they used to make gin blends to make hand sanitiser; LLUK Textile Services’ donations of facemasks; Hyundai’s donation of eight vehicles for deliveries; High Wycombe Rugby Club who were on weekend call to deliver critical supplies.
