New Chairman appointed for Aylesbury Garden Town
On 19 July, Cllr. Gareth Williams was appointed as the new Chairman of the Aylesbury Garden Town Strategic Oversight Board. Cllr. Williams, Deputy Leader of Buckinghamshire Council and Cabinet Member for Planning and Regeneration, takes over from Cllr. Steve Bowles, who has taken up a new role as Cabinet Member for Communities.
Following the adoption of its Masterplan in July last year, Aylesbury Garden Town (AGT) is already helping to transform Aylesbury into a vibrant successful, green and sustainable town for everyone.
For example, work has already started on several key projects including the Gardenway − a green orbital park and cycleway. There is also regeneration work on the town centre to help with its recovery as a result of the pandemic. In addition, the recent HIF funding awarded to Buckinghamshire Council will now realise key infrastructure projects, such as sections of the link road network, new schools and health centres that are essential to delivering the AGT Vision and priorities.
Cllr. Gareth Williams, Chairman of AGT Board, said:
“Cllr. Steve Bowles has been an excellent Chairman of Aylesbury Garden Town over the last year. Despite the immense challenges of the pandemic, Steve’s vision and dedication has kept the Masterplan on track and I’m excited by what the future holds for Aylesbury Garden Town.
“Looking towards my 12 months as Chairman, I’m clear that our success will only be delivered by working with our partners and communities to fulfil the aspirations to make Aylesbury a thriving, vibrant, innovative and great place to live, work and invest in. I look forward to being part of making that happen.”
