New opportunities at Wendover News
For over thirty years, this magazine has been distributed free to households in Wendover and the surrounding area. Its circulation now stands at 5000. It has been an important link to the community for many of our readers. In some cases, it has been a lifeline. It has also witnessed the first steps of many small businesses and start-ups who are still reaching out to their customers via adverts in this issue.
Now, a new chapter begins: Wendover News is changing from being a commercial company, to a social enterprise. Our first step is to recruit volunteers to be Directors of the new Community Interest Company (CIC) that is being set up. We need a small number of enthusiastic volunteer directors to help make things happen. Experience as a business leader would be ideal but we would like to incorporate new ideas so mentoring could be given to suitable candidates.
Who do you know who could do this?
Community ownership will mean that Wendover News will be able to do even more. So whether you’re an advertiser, from a local organisation, a business owner, or a reader if you are interested in helping to shape what that might look like, please let us know. The most valuable commodity you can offer is yourself.
Opportunities below Board level include helping to collect news and see your work published, develop our social media platforms as well as our website https://www.wendovernews.co.uk/. We need people who enjoy the camaraderie of working together as a team. This could be a stepping stone into a first or new career, work experience or the way back into work again. You could take on the role of mentor sharing your knowledge. Our experienced part time employees will be there to help and the time commitment could only involve the equivalent of a day or two a month (more initially).
If you would like to become involved and evolve what the magazine will look like and how it serves its community, or know someone who does, please contact jane@wendovernews.co.uk, by Monday 6 March.
