New shared online space launched for youth workers in Buckinghamshire to support coronavirus response
Buckinghamshire Council’s Family Support Service Community Youth Team have been working with youth workers from the volunteer sector across the county to find new and better ways to support young people during lockdown.
Due to the outbreak of coronavirus, youth workers have been unable to run regular sessions from centres or meet up with young people to offer 1:1 support.
Consequently, a shared online space for 39 youth workers across the county has been set up to support information sharing, collaboration and to promote best practice. The site allows youth workers to access information and guidance on how to support young people remotely with any issues that they may be facing. It contains practical guides on a range of topics including online youth work, social networking apps and games, safeguarding issues, mental health and wellbeing advice for families.
Mark Shaw, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said: “During times like these it is so important that we are able to offer support to young people on any issues that they may be facing. By setting up this online space, our fantastic youth workers across the county will be able to share their advice and experiences with one another to ensure that our young people are being provided with the best advice, help and support possible.”
