Partnership Working Leads to Opportunities for Young People
Leading Aylesbury-based charity and provider of care and support services, The Fremantle Trust has joined in partnership with Aylesbury College to create fifteen Traineeships for local young people. Launched by the Government in September last year, Traineeships are designed to prepare young people for their future careers by helping them to become ‘work-ready’. Trainees learn essential work skills alongside a high quality work placement to prepare them for an Apprenticeship or employment.
Aylesbury College has already launched a successful pilot scheme with five young people who have been doing work placements in various College departments. Elodie, age 18, comments: “My work placement in the College Marketing department is really fun! I have already learned so much about design work which I really love. I wasn’t sure what to do next but then this came along and it is just a great opportunity for me.”
The Fremantle Trust runs care and nursing homes for older people as well as services for adults with a learning disability across Buckinghamshire.
Commenting on the upcoming programme, Carole Sawyers, Chief Executive at The Fremantle Trust said: “We are delighted to be working with Aylesbury College to provide opportunities for young people who are not currently in education or employment. This will be a really worthwhile programme which will give them a wonderful opportunity to experience work in the care sector. After an induction period, the Trainees will spend around sixteen weeks in a number of our homes.”
Karen Mitchell, Principal and Chief Executive at Aylesbury College added: “Schemes like Traineeships are becoming ever more important as we aim to prepare the next generation of young people for employment. Trainees will undertake essential work preparation training including Maths and English (for those who don’t already have GCSE A*-C equivalent), alongside high quality work experience from six weeks up to a maximum of six months. The work preparation element ensures the individual has the skills and confidence needed, with the work experience giving meaningful insight into the world of work.”
Aylesbury College is looking to offer Traineeships in partnership with a wide range of businesses – if your organisation would like to explore this opportunity please contact Tim Keighley on 01296 588626.
