Pipes & Drums finish on a roll
After a tremendously successful season the combined RAF Waddington and RAF Halton Pipes and Drums Grade 3A band finished on a high by becoming the All England Champions at the Chatsworth Highland Games on 31st August 2014.
It’s been a massively successful year on the competition circuit for this band who are now, British Champions, English Champions, and took Third place in the World Championships.
With ten other competition wins this now represents the best ever set of results for a Royal Air Force band.
It is all the more remarkable as the pipers and drummers still had to fulfil their ceremonial duties over this period, taking part in the Commonwealth Games, the Basel Tattoo and a host of other air shows and parades. For a voluntary band, these achievements reflect a lot of hard work, dedication and effort, put in over a long period of time.
RAF Halton’s Pipe Major Lenny Browne joined Iain Westgate, pipe major of the 3A band, in congratulating all of those who took part and Iain commented: “We set the bar very high and I was very pleased and proud of all the players as they continued to perform to such a high level throughout the season.”
