Publication of Ofsted’s second monitoring visit letter
The County Council is ‘beginning to demonstrate some early signs of improvement in some parts of the service providing help and protection for children’, according to Ofsted in their latest monitoring visit letter published today (8 January 2019).
The letter follows the second monitoring visit from Ofsted which took place in December 2018, during which inspectors reviewed the progress made in the arrangements for supporting children in need of protection including the quality, effectiveness and impact of assessment and planning in managing risk and improving outcomes.
Ofsted inspectors stated that since the last monitoring visit, ‘leaders have continued to respond purposefully to the critical weaknesses in services for children in need of help and protection in Buckinghamshire’. Inspectors also noted that ‘work has taken place to re-align the service, refresh the quality assurance framework and review the child protection advisory service’. This ‘brings an increased focus on strengthening practice and quality standards, alongside continuing to embed performance compliance’.
Warren Whyte, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said “We are all encouraged by the recognition that improvements are being made. As noted by Ofsted, we are under no illusion about the extent of improvements that are needed and we are determined to deliver these improvements for the children of Buckinghamshire.”
