Runners will be taking to the streets for the annual Run Prestwood on Sunday 17 May.  The event raises much-needed funds for the Chilterns MS Centre to help people affected by multiple sclerosis (MS) to lead healthier and happy lives through physical, practical and emotional support.

The family-friendly event starts at 10.30am at Sprinters Leisure Centre with the timed 10k race.  A 5k fun run will follow and fancy dress is very much encouraged!  There will also be a Children’s challenge for little ones aged 5+.  Local refreshments and family-friendly activities will also be available.

All proceeds will go towards funding physical treatments and emotional support for people affected by MS.  Events like Run Prestwood contribute to the £1.2m needed to run the Centre every year.  You can help to beat last year’s total of £9,000 by signing up to run and being sponsored.

Each £150 raised could pay for two 1-2-1 hydrotherapy sessions, allowing someone with MS to improve their balance and strength so they can maintain their independence and continue doing the things they love. People like David Smith.  David was diagnosed with MS in 1994.

“Physiotherapy has helped me to maintain my physical abilities as far as possible and weekly oxygen treatment seems to give me more strength and stamina.  I have enjoyed the benefits of hydrotherapy from time to time too.   The companionship with other members lifts my spirits and it’s good to feel part of a group of similarly affected people.  The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly, and we inevitably end up chatting to different people and making friends.  There are various groups running too, including the art group, Boccia and wheelchair dancing. “

Run Prestwood 2020 has been supported by the Rotary Club of Great Missenden and Tesco Bags of Life, a scheme that supports local community groups and charities.   Bags of Help is run in partnership with environmental charity Groundwork, and sees grants awarded to thousands of local community projects every year. Since launching in 2015, it’s provided more than £75 million to over 25,000 local community projects.
