WHY is this refurbishment taking place?

Wendover Parish Council is very aware that the Manor Waste needed refurbishment to make it an easier public space to use. Problems which had been identified include;

– Surface never designed to take the traffic and footfall it now gets

– To improve access to the site and the shops fronting it

– To improve safety

– To make the site of greater benefit to the community and a more usable space for events and commercial use

– To improve the site for the weekly and monthly markets

WHAT IS CHANGING?

– New surfacing and sub base

– New street furniture and additional benches with bins

– Slot drainage to remove surface water

– A new seating feature and planters around the War Memorial

– Accessible water point

– Power points which will be able to be used by market traders etc

– Retractable bollards, with bollards being installed closer together

– Speed reduction on the access road to the rear car park

WHAT ABOUT THE MARKETS?

The weekly market and monthly Local Produce Market will continue to be held on the Manor Waste, although there is likely to be a TEMPORARY reduction in the number of stalls on different weeks. The contractor will be working closely with the market traders during the works.
It is expected that the larger more popular traders will continue to attend but will need to adapt to some extent around the works. The most important factor to take account of will be safety. We have to be assured that the users of the site (both the customers and traders) will be safe in whatever arrangements are made for the market each week.
