Dunsmore Regeneration Ball 2017
Tucked away in the folds of the Chilterns, one could be mistaken for thinking Dunsmore a rural backwater; a hamlet where nothing goes on.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Dunsmore folk know how to have fun and one of the best events this year was the Regeneration Ball.
For a few years the summer extravaganza has been mothballed but, thanks to the efforts of Andy Stancombe, David Marshall and Nick Philips, 2017 brought the event back to life.
Ros Wood very kindly offered the use of her garden, a beautiful location in the woods, surrounded by trees and shrubs with only the sound of owls to interrupt the rhythm of the bands.
Villagers helped to set up marquees and gazebos. David Marshall shuttled tables to and from the village hall and Andy Stancombe wired the garden for light and sound. As dusk approached, the guests trooped up the lane bearing picnic baskets and clutching their precious vintage wines. The dress code was informal (with the exception of a compulsory bow tie) so everyone felt comfortable and relaxed.
Apart from a few horseflies and an initial sprinkling of rain, the event was a raging success. Live music was provided by the very professional group Dunsmore Folk Expectation. They entertained tirelessly with reels and folksy music as well as organising the country dancing. Guitarist Andrew North accompanied by his drummer John Stewart sang and played familiar favourites from the classic pop genre. The North Family band was swelled by backing singers Nick North and Hilary North.
Special thanks to the air guitar band who played between two major gigs. Hopefully more band members will join us next year!
A memorable evening was had by all. The event raised an astonishing £533.00 which is being donated to Wycombe Homeless Connection. The raffle itself raised £191.00.
