Residents urged: stay at home even in good weather

Residents in Buckinghamshire have been urged to stick with the Government’s advice to stay at home this weekend and in the coming weeks as the nation approaches the peak of the epidemic.

And businesses have been asked to continue complying with Government requirements to stay closed.

The call comes from Buckinghamshire Council’s Executive Portfolio Holder for Health and Culture, Gareth Williams

He said that with lighter evenings and warmer weather forecast, especially this weekend, there was a temptation to head for the countryside. And with Easter approaching, there was a greater temptation to relax things.

“My advice is the same as the Government’s,” said Gareth. “Please let’s stay in our homes so we don’t increase the risk to ourselves and others, including our loved ones.

“There is now high level of coronavirus transmission in the community and it is really important to follow this guidance, for everyone’s sake.”

Gareth said the peak of the coronavirus emergency in the UK is expected to be in the next couple of weeks.

“It’s really good that shops and businesses are complying with closure orders and we’ve seen an upsurge of goodwill by residents who are following social distancing guidance,” he said.

“But if we relax things now, we run the risk of substantially increasing the rate of infection and overwhelming our NHS, who are doing a fantastic job.

“Let’s remain resolute: stay at home and stay closed to protect ourselves and others, protect the NHS, and save lives.”
