Solar Streets and Earth Hour

Solar Streets Update
In September 2021, Climate Action Wendover launched the Solar Streets Project and we’re delighted that 14 households have signed up to install solar panels with four installations already completed. We caught up with one resident who had 14 new panels installed on an east/west facing roof to find out if they had seen any benefit – even during the cloudy winter months and this is what we learnt:

“Our solar panels have enabled us to maintain our electricity bills at more or less the same level they were at before our electricity price nearly doubled, so having them has definitely saved money on our daytime use, even when this isn’t very high. I’ve switched to using an electric slow cooker some days, and on a sunny day the solar generation covers all of that usage, meaning we don’t have to use the gas cooker or electric oven in the evening which is expensive. Later this year I would like to get a battery as I think that will help reduce our evening usage costs significantly.”

With the clocks going forwards on Sunday 27 March, longer days and hopefully more sunshine, we’ve decided to re-launch the Solar Streets project once again for Wendover and Villages. If you are interested in learning more about our community scheme and the benefits of switching to solar then please join our Zoom call on Tuesday 15 March at 7.30pm. The session will last about an hour and you can register to attend at https://solarstreets.co.uk/wendover.

Earth Hour
Climate Action Wendover would like to encourage as many households as possible to take part in Earth Hour at 8.30pm on Saturday 26 March. All you need to do is switch off as many electrical items and lights as possible. To find out more about Earth Hour and how this has been a catalyst for change then visit https://www.earthhour.org/.
