Tackling youth food poverty at Youth Concern

We are delighted that we will be launching Aylesbury’s first ever Youth Food Bank on the 28th November.

Youth Concern has been distributing food and care parcels to vulnerable 13-25 year olds from across Aylesbury Vale for the last few years. Thanks to the support of Buckinghamshire Council, Helping Hands, Aylesbury Foodbank and other funders, we can now scale up our offer to meet growing needs.

Grow it Cook it Eat It is a community food growing and cooking project. It’s aimed at communities who may experience financial hardship or have challenges accessing fresh fruit and vegetables.

We have hosted Grow It Cook It Eat It gardening and cooking sessions at our Drop-in Centre over the summer and they were a great success. So we are now running Grow It Cook It Eat It sessions with our Next Step residents to equip them with these essential life skills. The residents at the Next Step are feeling the cost of living crisis like many others in Aylesbury Vale this winter. They sometimes need food parcels from the Drop-In and co-operate with other residents to pool their food supplies and cook together. Our staff are working with them on budgeting, meal planning and cooking skills. Grow It Cook It Eat It will take this education to the next level for these residents.
