Residents are urged to make their views known on Buckinghamshire Council’s plans for seamless, sustainable and safe travel. The draft Transport Strategy and Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) for High Wycombe map out proposed improvements which will make green travel options easier than ever.

Buckinghamshire Council actively supports and encourages active travel as its part of tackling climate change and improving air quality within Buckinghamshire, aiming for carbon neutrality or net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The council has suggested improvements to travel in High Wycombe, including cycling and walking routes, and have big questions about what travel in the town might look like in just a few decades.

The High Wycombe Transport Strategy envisions that by 2050, High Wycombe will be among the best connected and most innovative towns in the Thames Valley. All the journeys from start to finish aim to be considered low emission, seamless, and safe for everyone, setting an ambitious goal for the town’s transport system.

The other draft plan being consulted on, the High Wycombe Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP), recommends ways to make cycling and walking in the High Wycombe area safe, accessible and attractive for all users. This plan consists of a future walking and cycling network that covers the High Wycombe area, identifying interventions to improve cycling and walking networks in the town, as well as linking the network to the surrounding areas. The LCWIP will play a key role in promoting physical activity, health and wellbeing, and improving the local environment.

Steven Broadbent, Cabinet Member for Transport, said:

“We are keen to hear what residents and businesses have to say regarding our plan for transport in High Wycombe, which sets a high goal to be reached by 2050. This might seem far away, but it will be here quicker than we think – all the meanwhile we need to identify greener transport measures that can support the planned growth in High Wycombe. The draft Transport Strategy and draft LCWIP outline how we propose to do this.”

Residents, local businesses and people who travel in and around High Wycombe are urged to voice their views about the draft Transport Strategy and draft Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) for High Wycombe. You can either chat in person by attending a drop-in session or complete a survey online.

The drop-in sessions are being held at:

  • Eden Shopping Centre, High Wycombe – Saturday 5 November – 10:30am – 2pm
  • High Wycombe Library – Friday 18 November – 10am – 4pm
