The Play’s the Thing
Unbound Theatre team up with national charity, Calibre Audio Library, to record plays for its members.
Calibre Audio Library has received a boost to its 11,000 audiobooks, thanks to the artistic efforts of Unbound Theatre, the Aylesbury based in-house production company of Queens Park Arts Centre. Calibre have teamed up with Unbound, through their 500 Words Challenge for this year’s WhizzFizzFest. From this collaboration, the idea grew to record plays for Calibre members to enjoy listening to, and bring back the experience of visiting the theatre.
Thanks to the energy and drive of Unbound’s Creative Producer, Dario Knight, and Calibre’s Head of Literature Audiobook Production, Emma Scott, it wasn’t long before a suitable play was found. Over a weekend, a team of dedicated actors, a producer and a recording engineer, got to work on Harold Pinter’s ‘The Caretaker’. James Beston, Marketing Lead at Calibre Audio Library, was also there to applaud their efforts. James explained afterwards,
“The whole recording experience was amazing! Dario, Andrew, and the actors were true professionals and it was a treat to be able to watch the play come together. They are providing our members with a much-loved play that we have not been in a position to provide, until now. This audiobook will provide many hours of pleasure to people who would otherwise miss out on plays like these.”
Once Robert Aldington (who played Davies), Andrew Shaw (Aston) and Gareth Johnson (Mick) finished recording, it was taken away by Recording Engineer, Andrew Medhurst for editing. Soon the book will be added to Calibre’s shelves and enjoyed by their members for many years to come.
