The Queen’s Green Canopy – getting involved
The Queen will be celebrating her Platinum Jubilee as our Monarch on the 2 June 2022. This occasion marks 70 years on the throne and offers up exciting opportunities for the residents of Buckinghamshire to celebrate both in the extended bank holiday (2-5 June 2022) and in the run up to it.
Buckinghamshire Council is working towards a number of projects that we hope will enable the public and community groups to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee and provide a legacy for future generations, in particular focusing on supporting the ‘Plant a tree for the Jubilee’ national initiative.
Launched this month is The Queen’s Green Canopy campaign – https://queensgreencanopy.org/ – which is a tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. Everyone across the UK is being invited to plant trees from October 2021, when the tree planting season begins, through to the end of the Jubilee year in 2022.
Peter Strachan, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Environment said:
“In Buckinghamshire we are already leading on a major programme of woodland planting and the Queen’s Green Canopy will create a further network of individual trees, avenues, copses and whole woodlands in honour of The Queen’s service and the legacy she has built. This will create a green legacy of its own, with every tree planted bringing benefits for people, wildlife and climate, now and for the future. We are also urging residents of Bucks to plant their own trees so if you want to get involved in Buckinghamshire and ‘Plant a tree for the Jubilee’– check out our website for details – https://www.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/community-and-safety/the-queens-platinum-jubilee/
“And don’t forget , you can now add your Jubilee tree to the Queen’s Green Canopy map here: https://queensgreencanopy.org/map-education-hub/qgc-map/#/ “
