The Shepherd’s Hut Outdoor Day Nursery
The Shepherd’s Hut Outdoor Day Nursery has been rated “OUTSTANDING” in its field by Ofsted.
Having only opened in August 2018 we have worked extremely hard to bring The Shepherd’s Hut Outdoor Day Nursery to what it is today. With up to 80% of the day spent outdoors and through a diverse range of activities, children that attend our nursery have the opportunity to become well-rounded individuals.
The Forest School ethos within a nursery setting is proven to:
- build self-esteem
- encourage independence
- grow knowledge of the “world around us”
- promote and instil the benefits of teamwork
- ensure children have fun whilst meeting the essential requirements of the EYFS Framework
Along with the combination of our unique setting and a high adult to child ratio, children are both inspired and engaged to develop their own characters and self-confidence. We see every day at the Shepherd’s Hut as an opportunity to grow, challenge and build expectations within our children. How do we do this? Through a broad variety of child-led activities including arts, crafts, tool work, planting, tending and harvesting fruit and vegetables. Our staff are qualified and experienced and will always ensure the children have their undivided care, support and encouragement.
Based near Wendover on an enclosed and picturesque piece of farmland, in the foothills below Coombe Hill, The Shepherd’s Hut Outdoor Day Nursery comprises several structures. Designed with children at heart, we have a heated yurt for indoor activities, quiet time and inclement weather. This year “2021” we introduced our Baby Barn for 0-2 year olds where they can play, rest and eat together when not exploring the outdoor area. Alongside this we have a designated Forest School area, mud kitchen, a fruit and vegetable patch where we will grow, cultivate and eat our harvest.
Children are unfolded not moulded.
