Thrift Shop donates to five Charities
RAF Halton’s Thrift Shop team, led by organiser, Veronica Tuppen, have made donations to five charities in a cheque presentation at Halton House Officer’s Mess. Soldier, Sailor and Air Force Families Association (SSAFA), First Responders, Riding For The Disabled, Air Ambulance and Blood Bikes were all better off by £750.
Veronica explained the purpose of the Thrift Shop to the visitors and thanked her colleagues Paula Wilson, Thelma Philips and Yvonne Yeo for their hard work over the years. She said: “Thelma and Paula have worked at the shop since the TocH shop closed in Wendover about 18 years ago and Yvonne joined them when the shop moved to the old Post Office in 2011.
The RAF Halton Thrift Shop is a high quality second hand shop that sells unwanted items and raises money primarily for local charities and causes. The customer receives 80% of the sale item and the Shop retains 20%. A committee meeting is held when charity applications are considered and then donations given.
The Station Commander, Group Captain Adrian Burns, presented the cheques and added his thanks to the volunteers before presenting Veronica with a bouquet of flowers to celebrate her 25 years in the Halton Thrift shop.
A group photo was taken on the steps of Halton House before refreshments were served in the Salon.
Blood Bikes is an organisation that delivers blood and medical equipment to hospitals all over the country. The donation went to the Oxon, Bucks, Northants and Berkshire group.
