Tree of Light Celebrations provide focus for remembering loved ones
Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity is inviting everyone who has lost friends or family, whether they were cared for by Florence Nightingale Hospice or not, and regardless of religion or faith, to join them at the Tree of Light Celebrations and to honour and celebrate their loved ones by sponsoring a Christmas light in their memory.
Christmas is a time when we particularly think of those who are no longer with us, and the Tree of Light Celebrations and Books of Honour provide a focus for families and friends to mark this in a variety of different ways.
People can sponsor a light to honour someone special and write a dedication or tribute to them to appear in the Books of Honour which will be available to view at the two Tree of Light events to be held this December. The names of those included in the Books of Honour can also feature in a Roll of Honour to be published in the Bucks Herald in December, if requested. Everyone who dedicates a light will receive a personal card of acknowledgment and an invitation to the Tree of Light Celebration they would like to attend.
The Tree of Light ceremonies will be led by the Hospice Chaplain, the Rev Carole Hough, and will include festive carols, music provided by the Leighton Buzzard Salvation Army Band and a selection of readings.
“Tree of Light gives us that moment of opportunity to come together, away from all the frenetic activity, to remember those who we love,” said Reverend Hough. “As the lights are switched on, so we cherish their memories and hold them in our hearts in a special and meaningful way.”
There are two Tree of Light events: the first will be at the Head Office of Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity at Walton Lodge, Walton Street, Aylesbury, on Sunday 4th December at 5pm. The second event will take place at St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Buckingham on Saturday 10th December at 3.30pm.
