Tribute to County Councillor Chaudhary Ditta

Tributes have been paid today following the death of Buckinghamshire County Councillor Chaudhary Ditta, who represented the Totteridge and Bowerdean ward in High Wycombe.

Chaudhary died at Stoke Mandeville Hospital on Wednesday, November 21. His funeral was held today (November 22).

County Council Leader Martin Tett said: “Chaudhary Ditta was a highly respected and active member of the Wycombe community and he always showed great dedication to the residents he represented.

“He was a valued and conscientious member of the County Council. He held a number of posts here during his 13 years of service, fulfilling them with dignity and good humour.

“He will be greatly missed by his colleagues, across all parties, and our thoughts and condolences go out to his friends and family at this very sad time.”

Chaudhary Ditta was first elected to represent Bowerdean, Micklefield and Totteridge on the County Council in May 2005 as a Labour member, and was re-elected a further three times. He went on to serve as a Liberal Democrat candidate and then, most recently, as a member of the East Wycombe Independent Party.

He had been a member of the High Wycombe Local Area Forum as well as the Council’s Development Control Committee and the Rights of Way Committee. Previously, Chaudhary had served on the Community Cohesion and Equalities Forum and the Pension Fund Committee.

Chaudhary, originally from Kashmir, moved to the Wycombe area in 1973. He had also been a member of Wycombe District Council for the Bowerdean ward until 2015, and served as Mayor of High Wycombe from 2011-2012, taking great pride in representing the town.

A one minute silence was held in his honour at the meeting of Buckinghamshire County Council’s full council today. Further tributes will be paid at the next full council meeting, on February 21.
